Abhinandan Chikkam who started his campaign on the wrong foot, finally got the monkey off his back. Last Sunday, playing champagne carrom he defeated two of Carrom Canada’s finest players. He started off by beating last singles winner Elango Vellusamy easily 2-0 and followed up with a flawless display overcoming Anurag Chanda 2-0. Anurag who came fourth in the last US open in Dallas had no answer to Abhinandan’s implacable form. Earlier in the day, Abhi had a White Slam. It was raining slams that day with Shad Ahmed and Dinesh Shetty getting black slams apiece.

It's a game of leap frogs at the premier league of carrom Canada singles tournament. For the 3rd time in 6 weeks we have a new leader. The first 2 weeks’ leader Shad, was taken over by Elango. Now at the end of 6 weeks we have Dinesh leaping to the top with 12 points to his credit. Dinesh won his game against Balachandran Dandapani to take up sole leadership. Following him are 5 players on 10 points. This shows how competitive this tournament is.
Derrick takes the second spot but has an advantage over the rest of the pack as he has only lost one game. Most of the others vying for the title have dropped 2 games. Dinesh has 3 games left and are pretty inconsequential because he has to be in a terrible form to lose them. On the other hand, Derrick has couple of toughies, whereas Shad has 3 challenging games ahead. Elango, Sanjeevan has 2 battles to fight, whilst Anurag has to brush away his losses and go through the rest of his matches unscratched, with 3 difficult games remaining. Abhi who has
lost 3 cannot afford to lose another. He should be able to wrap up the rest of his games with ease expect the one with Shad.
But it all hinges on to, who can hold on to his nerves, to go through the final stages to reign supreme. At this stage it appears that Derrick hold the aces, but the question is, can he play them right?
New addition to Carrom Canada family is Chiwah Yee, a former Nagpada, Mumbai resident and played the likes of Sangam's, Kamblis, will be a good asset. He needs to get back to the game he played regularly. Chiwah has not played carrom for a long time and have already shown signs of play we can expect from him.
