Elango Vellusamy is barely clinging to his berth on the top, in Carrom Canada’s singles premier league despite losing 2 matches yesterday. The former Sri Lanka junior player had a bad outing on Sunday and lost to Sanjeevan Selladurai in a 3 game match and than went down to the new find Abhinanadhan Chikkam, the junior Chandigarh state player in 2 straight games.
Sanjeevan who has substantially improved his game had a good outing beating yet another seasoned player Balachandran Dandapani in 3 games. Balachandran loss to Sanjeevan was his first in the tournament. Dinesh Shetty another player who has improved his anti in this tournament, had an easy outing in the last 2 weeks beating his Mississauga club colleagues Sylvester D’Souza and Derek D’Souza easily in straight games. With these wins Dinesh collected 10 points and is behind the leader Elango in the standings. Sanjeevan also has 10 points and is in third place. Whereas, in Mississauga, Derek D’Souza prevailed over Sylvester to collect his first points in the league.
After four weeks of intense competition, the tournament is taking shape splendidly, with no player remaining unbeaten. The other players in contention, Shad Ahmed, Anurag Chanda and Derrick Silveira who have played fewer matches have lost a match apiece. However, they have to play against each other, which will determine who will be the leader down the stretch. Ishan Mohammed who has not yet played a single match and a strong favourite is not certain of his participation due to travel time from his residence to the venues.
In some other matches played, Balachandran beat Mohanathas Vellusamy in 3 games. Shad lost to Elango in 2. Abhinandan defeated Madhukar and Rehan in 2 games.
Elango had a black slam against Shad. However, 4 white slams by different players were not completed as the crucial last coin was not pocketed.
