A North American record was established by Louis Fernandes for the maximum number of slams. By completing his century of slams a few days ago, Louis, is the only person in North America to create such an amazing feat – 100 slams.
After returning from the World Cup in Maldives, Louis wanted to get rid of his nemesis - bad breaks. He dedicated himself in improving his skills and disciplined himself in practicing almost 4 to 5 hours a day, all by himself. His perseverance paid off big time.
In the last 3 months he has uploaded over 80 slams on YouTube. Practicing alone can be lonely and frustrating, but he managed to overcome these obstacles and fulfill his goal of achieving 100 slams. To get a slam is not an easy feat and an excellent player would be delighted in getting a few during his lifetime of playing carrom.
Besides the Indians and the Sri Lankans, who play professionally and get slams frequently, another player from Sweden Saravanan Babu completed his 100 slams recently too. Saravanan also puts lots of playing time to improve his skills.

His colleagues have been ecstatic with his accomplishment and this is what they had to say……

Great accomplishment Louis. You make us proud. Carrom Canada salutes you for your efforts. Bigger victories will follow. You have shown that discipline and dedicated practices provide good results. Keep up the values of true sportsmanship and Carrom Canada.
You have also accomplished one of my goals. I need 3 more players like you.
FRANCIS D’COSTA, PRESIDENT, CARROM CANADA

CONGRATS on the 100, has surely taken a lot of sacrifices, dedicated practice, family support and a will reach this goal. It's been enjoyable watching all your slams on YouTube and hopefully you will keep uploading more. The next goal "World Champ".

DERRICK (RICKY) SILVEIRA, TREASURER CARROM CANADA

Many congrats! All your hard work finally paid off.
How long did it take to get your first 100? Can you beat that record with the fastest 100 slam?
SHAD AHMED, VP TECHNICAL AND SELECTION, CARROM CANADA.

Way to go Louis!
All the best... in your quest to conquer Mount Everest of carrom.
ATUL KHARECHA, PLAYER USA

Louie, Hats off to you. Our best wishes from my heart, to reach the top of Mt Everest, I am sure you will eventually reach.
On the way you could expect Avalanche and to overcome that or get prepared, you need to get in touch with Sherpas. You have already met those Sherpas,(you have played them) during earlier events around the world.
You should now get in touch with those people and learn the other aspect needed to win the crown.

LOUIS’ COMMENTS ON FACEBOOK:
Happy to post my 100th Slam on Indian Republic Day!
I never thought I would ever be able to achieve this. The last World Cup in Maldives has changed my life forever. I am grateful to Sir Arun Deshpande for unlocking my mind. Thanks to him, I look at the Carrom board very differently. I am ever thankful to Dr. Neeraj Sampathy for his tips and coaching which has been the guiding force behind all my slams. I have been inspired by Pierre Dubois and Carrom Fever to complete 100 slams on YouTube and I salute them.
I am what I am in the Carrom world today because of my guru Francis D'Costa and I owe everything to him for making all the opportunities available to me and everyone in Carrom Canada.
I thank all those who have meticulously taken pains to watch my videos and I wouldn't have achieved this milestone without their support.
Cheers and long live Carrom!!!
